During World War II, about 425,000 prisoners were sent to the United States, among them about 51,000 Italians, of whom at least 170 died during the internment period.

World War II has been the subject of endless publications, especially regarding the campaigns in Russia and Africa, while the coverage of many soldiers’ imprisonment in concentration camps around the world is less prolific. There are, of course, books on the subject, but as far as the United States is concerned, the literature is not exhaustive and tends to focus on non-cooperative prisoners, those who refused to collaborate with the Americans and were isolated in Texas and Hawaii.
Much dust has been brushed off in recent years by American researcher Kathy Kirkpatrick, who has quantitatively organized material related to prisoners of war, including a list of soldiers who died during their stay in America for various reasons.
Some birth and death data are missing because they are indecipherable.
