All these surnames derive, directly or through hypocoristic forms, from dialectal modifications of the name Giorgio = Zorzo; specifically, from dialects of the Friuli and Veneto area.
According to E. Rossoni, it is possible to find traces of these surnames in Istria in 1300 with Gilberto Zorzi, bishop of Parenzo; in Venice in 1500 with the notary Giovan Lorenzo Zorzi; and in Belluno in 1600 with Marin Zorzi, Podestà and Captain of the city.
Meanwhile, Zorzenon (typical of Gorizia), Zorzenoni (present in Trieste and Venice) and Zorzenone (typical of Udine) would be the dialectal forms derived from Giorgenone, another derivative of the name Giorgio.
