Tormene

This form is a variant of the surname Tormen.

Origin and meaning

E. De Felice considers that this is a Venetan surname, frequent in the Belluno area, formed from the place name Tormeno (in the province of Vicenza), whose local form is Tormen.

E. Rossoni broadens the possible toponymic origins: the surname could derive from Tormeno di Arcugnano, in the Vicenza area; from Monte Tormeno; or from other related place names, such as Tormine, in the Verona area, and Tormene di Monte Nuvolà, in the Belluno area. Rossoni also distinguishes variants of the surname with their own distributions: Tormena is concentrated in the Treviso area —in localities such as Farra di Soligo, Vidor, Valdobbiadene and Montebelluna— and also in the Pordenone area, while Tormene appears in the Padua area.
