Stocchi

This form is a variant of the surname Stocco.

Origin and meaning

F. De Laurentiis notes that the surname has as its base nicknames derived from stocco, a word that designated both "the stalk of maize or the pole of the haystack" and "a kind of robust sword suited to thrusting blows".

R. Brondolo, for his part, links the term stocco with the idea of "instrument for forcing" and, by extension, with the figurative sense of "trickster", without ruling out an origin as a trade name. Brondolo associates this surname with northern Italy.
