Stanislao

This form is a variant of the surname Musella.

Origin and meaning

The authors agree that the surname derives from the Late Latin name Musellus, documented in medieval Latin sources.

E. Rossoni notes that Musella and Musello are typical of the Naples area and of the lower Caserta area, in southern Italy, while Muselli also shows an important area in the south of the province of Milan and the north of the Piacenza area.

F. De Laurentiis adds that the surname may likewise derive from Musi, which suggests a possible anthroponymic base alternative or complementary to the Latinized form.
