Rendace
This form is an altered form of the surname Renda.
Origin and meaning
E. De Felice and E. Rossoni agree that the surname derives, through dialect forms of Greek, from the name Laurentius (Lorenzo).
De Felice specifies that it was formed from a personal name Renda —Renna in the southern phonetic form—, with the diminutive Rendace. This form is an adaptation of the modern Greek name Rhéndes —and of the diminutive Rhendákes—, which is the aphaeretic hypocoristic of Layréntios, a loanword in Greek from the Latin Laurentius.
Rossoni identifies it as typical of southern Italy, with one area in Sicily and another in Calabria. He derives it from the initial reduction of a dialect variant of the Greek name Layrentios (Lorenzo).
