Nardìn
This form is an altered form of the surname Nardi.
Origin and meaning
The authors agree that the surname derives from the name Nardo, already common in the 12th and 13th centuries, an aphetic hypocoristic of Bernardo or Leonardo. F. De Laurentiis specifies that Nardo means "bold, strong, valiant".
As for the geographical distribution, both authors note a greater frequency in Lombardy, north-eastern Italy (in the regions of Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige), Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. E. De Felice adds that in Veneto specific forms such as Nardìn, Nardon and Nardari are recorded, and that in southern Italy the variants Nardiello, Nardilli and Nardulli are proper.
