Murialdi

This form is a variant of the surname Murialdo.

Origin and meaning

E. De Felice notes that this surname derives from the place name Murialdo, a locality in the province of Savona, in Liguria.

R. Brondolo broadens this origin: the surname comes both from place names of the province of Savona and from a personal name documented in the provinces of Alessandria and Genoa. He proposes a Latin-Germanic etymology, from the compound maurus-wald, with the sense of "black mountain". Brondolo further notes a presence of the surname in Lombardy and in the canton of Ticino, in Switzerland.
