Murano

This form is a variant of the surname Murani.

Origin and meaning

The authors differ in their approach. E. Rossoni proposes that the surname would derive from the Latin personal name Muranus, documented in the Annales. According to the Roman grammarian Servius, a king named Muranus is said to have founded the city of Avella, in the Avellino area. Rossoni notes that Murani is very infrequent, with a presence in the Piceno and in the Foggia area.

F. De Laurentiis, by contrast, considers it a variant derived from the surname Muratori.
