Lurago

This form is a variant of the surname Luraghi.

Origin and meaning

E. De Felice notes that this surname derives from the place names Lurago d'Erba and Lurago Marinone, both in the Como area.

E. Rossoni specifies that Luraghi is proper to the north of the Milan area and to the Como area, and that the surname Lurago —the form closer to the original place name— is very rare and would appear to be concentrated in San Vittore Olona, in the province of Milan. Rossoni agrees with De Felice that the toponymic origin goes back to Lurago d'Erba or Lurago Marinone.
