Origin and meaning

The surname is widespread with high frequency throughout Italy, and has as its base the name Giorgio. The Latin Georgiu(m) goes back directly to the late Greek name Georgios, which for the Greeks was immediately related to the common noun georgós, "peasant, farmer", of ancient Indo-European origin.
