Ferracino

This form is a variant of the surname Ferracini.

Origin and meaning

E. Rossoni maintains that these surnames would derive from the medieval name Feracinus. He notes that the variant Ferracino is almost unique and seems to be due to transcription errors. As a prominent figure of the 18th century he mentions the engineer Bartolommeo Ferracino, native to the Bassano area. According to Rossoni, the surname is quite spread in the area comprising the Modena, Bologna, Ferrara and Rovigo areas, with presence also between the Treviso and Pordenone areas, and in the province of Bolzano.

F. De Laurentiis, on the other hand, proposes a different etymology and considers that the surname derives from Ferri.
