Cèglia
This form is a variant of the surname Cèglie.
Origin and meaning
E. De Felice notes that this surname is very frequent in the Bari area, with extension to the region of Puglia and to Campania, and that it derives from the place name Cèglie del Campo —a locality of the province of Bari— and, in less frequent cases, from Cèglie Messapico, in the province of Brindisi.
E. Rossoni agrees in noting Ceglie del Campo as the main origin, specifying that it is a hamlet located on the southern periphery of Bari, and also admits the possible derivation from the place name Ceglie Messapica, in the Brindisi area.
