S. Vannozzi provides data of documented provenance for the locality of Cercemaggiore, in the Campobasso area (Molise). According to Vannozzi, two different origins are recorded there: a first family coming from Gildone, in the same area, already documented at the end of the 17th century, and other more numerous homonymous families arrived in the 19th century from the area of Santa Croce del Sannio and Morcone, in the Benevento area (Campania), as a consequence of the processes of distribution and sale of communal and state lands of the time.
