Brumana is specific to the Bergamo area, especially to Costa Valle Imagna, with presence also in Varese, Como, Travagliato in the Brescia area and Premana in the Lecco area. Brumani and Brumano, almost unique, are probably due to transcription errors of the first. It would derive from the Bergamo place name of Brumano, although a derivation from nicknames originating in the archaic term bruma or brum (frost, but also winter, cold, ice) is also possible, indicating someone who came from the north.
