Bajamonte
This form is a variant of the surname Baiamonte.
Origin and meaning
The authors agree that Baiamonte is a surname derived from a medieval personal name, although they differ on its linguistic root.
E. Rossoni holds that it derives from the medieval name Baiamons, Baiamontis, documented in the Diplomatic Code of Medieval Lombardy in 1168, and in Modena in 1170 with Rolando di Baiamonte, signatory of a charter of fidelity to the consuls of the city.
V. Blunda presents it as a Sicilian surname of Germanic root, derived from the compound Boi Munda, meaning "protection of the Boii" or "Boian shelter", formed from boi (referring to the Celtic people of the Boii, settled in the Po basin before the Roman conquest) and munda (protection, guardianship). He notes that the Celtic element integrated into medieval Germanic anthroponymy reflects the contact between the two cultural families in northern Italy, where the linguistic roots intertwined over centuries.
