Surname Zamboni

Origin and meaning

F. De Laurentiis proposes that the surname results from the combination of Zanni —a dialectal form of Giovanni— with the adjective or name bono ("good"), which would relate it to the compound name Bongiovanni.

R. Brondolo agrees on the origin from Zan, a popular form of Giovanni, followed by the suffix -bonus, and specifies its geographical distribution: the surname is typical of Emilia and Veneto, from where it spread to the canton of Ticino (Switzerland) and to Lombardy, and less frequently reached Piedmont as well.

💡 The surname Zamboni also appears as variant of the surname Zanni in other studies consulted in this project.
