First documentation: "Antonio dicto Vescul" (Aquilee); Sant Roc, borgade di Gurize); year 1719: "Christofolo figliolo di Pietro Bernardon detto del Vescovo" (Frisanc); year 1737: "Matia q. Batta Nicli detto il Vescovo" (Rivis Darcjan); year 1742: "ser Gioseffo Coceano detto Vescovo, nonzolo" (Cividât); year 1800 approx.: "Baschiera Francesco detto Vescul" (becjâr a Codroip). From the citations it is clear that at first it was a byname, later slowly turned into a surname.
