Surname Venturi

Origin and meaning

P. Canè notes that this surname has an auspicious character, linked to a wish of good luck or novelty, and considers it also possibly an abbreviation of Bonaventura or another similar compound name.

R. Brondolo adds that the surname was applied to foundlings, to whom a "good fortune" (buona ventura) was wished, the dialectal form ventiréin being recorded in northern Italy. Brondolo agrees with Canè on the link with the personal name Bonaventura, interpreting it as an aphaeretic form —that is, with suppression of the initial syllable— of that name.

💡 The surname Venturi also appears as variant of the surname Ventura in other studies consulted in this project.
