Surname Tricarico

Origin and meaning

E. De Felice notes that this surname derives from the place name Tricarico, a locality in the province of Matera, in southern Italy.

E. Rossoni agrees with that etymology and specifies that the original nucleus of the surname is located in the Apulia and Basilicata area. He adds that there is a secondary nucleus in the Naples area, whose origin probably goes back to the 14th century, a period in which Basilicata was involved in the struggles of succession to the throne of Naples.
