Sinicco presents a clear concentration in Friuli:

Sinico

E. Rossoni proposes that Sinico (and in some cases also Sinicco) could derive from an Italianization of a Cimbrian term, sinick, whose meaning points back to singing or to the singer. This hypothesis fits better with its wide diffusion in areas historically influenced by Cimbrian populations of Veneto.

On the other hand, Olivieri notes that Sinico is a Venetan surname derived from the dialect term sinico, equivalent to syndacus, a word associated with community or administrative functions in the local medieval sphere.

The hypothesis of a derivation from the Latin sinicus ("Chinese," "of China") has been considered unlikely and does not have solid historical support.

Among the old records stands out:

• 1505 – Blasutto Sinico in Zugliano

This fact confirms that Sinico already coexisted early with Sinicco, even within the same regional sphere, before its expansion towards Veneto.

Geographic distribution

Unlike Sinicco, Sinico presents a much wider diffusion: Veneto (main nucleus): Montecchio Maggiore, Sarego, Nogarole Vicentino, Trissino, Arzignano, Vicenza and secondary presences in Trieste, Badia Polesine, Ospedaletto Euganeo.
