From the name of the town of Scorrano, Salento area, Puglia region.

The surname presents multiple independent lines of origin (ceppi), arisen in different regions without a direct relation between them. E. De Felice considers it proper to the Salento area —that is, the southernmost zone of the region of Apulia, in southern Italy—, and links it to the place name Scorrano, a locality of the Lecce area.

E. Rossoni distinguishes two ceppi. The first is concentrated in the Pescara area, with a presence in Pescara itself and in Pianella, and would derive from the name of a town called Scorrano located in the Teramo area. The second coincides with what De Felice notes: a root in the Salento, particularly in the Lecce area. In both cases it is therefore a surname of toponymic origin.
