A Sicilian surname of dialect origin. It comes from the word quasìmodu, with the meaning of "the first Sunday after Easter." The name comes from the first words of the liturgical chant quasi modo geniti infantes ("like newborn children"), the tradition of baptism on that feast. Salvatore Quasimodo, Nobel Prize in Literature 1959, is the illustrious bearer of the surname.
