Surname Perusini
Origin and meaning
Perusini is an Italian surname belonging to the broad onomastic group of Perugia, etymologically linked to the demonym applied to those originating from the ancient city of Perusia (Perugia), in Umbria. It derives from the medieval Latin form Perusius and from its hypocoristic Perusinus, the suffix -ini having a patronymic and family value, so Perusini can be interpreted as "the descendants of Perusi" or "the family of Perusi."
Extremely rare, it seems to be of Friulian origin, especially associated with Sedegliano, in the province of Udine. It preserves the s of the medieval Latin spelling Perusius, unlike the forms Perugi and Perugini, which follow the spelling with g of the modern place name Perugia.
💡 The surname Perusini also appears as altered form of the surname Perugia in other studies consulted in this project.
