F. De Laurentiis and E. Rossoni agree that the surname was formed from a nickname originating in the term peluria ("down, fuzz"), applied to one who had thick and long hair or beard, that is, hairy.
F. De Laurentiis adds that in some cases it may derive from the place name Pelucche, in the province of Viterbo.
E. Rossoni documents the surname in 1756, when a Fine Arts prize awarded to a certain Giuseppe Pelucchi is recorded.
