Surname Montagnana
Origin and meaning
The authors agree that this surname derives from the place name Montagnana. E. Rossoni notes that it is a fairly rare surname and that it is probably native to the area between Padua and Vicenza, in Veneto, linking it specifically to the place called Montagnana, in the province of Padua.
F. De Laurentiis broadens the perspective by indicating that the surname may derive both from the common noun montagna ("mountain") and from the place name Montagnana, present in several localities of Italy, among them the Padua, Modena, Pistoia and Florence areas.
💡 The surname Montagnana also appears as altered form of the surname Montagna in other studies consulted in this project.
