Surname Mazzini
Origin and meaning
E. Rossoni notes that this surname is found in central and northern Italy, particularly in Emilia, the northern Marche and the Apennine strip of Tuscany. According to Rossoni, its derivation is varied: it may descend from a nickname linked to a trade or to membership of a military corps, or else from the medieval name of Germanic origin Mazzi or Mazzo.
F. De Laurentiis proposes, for his part, a more direct etymology: the surname would derive from Mazza.
💡 The surname Mazzini also appears as altered form of the surname Mazza; also variants of the surnames Mazzo and Mazzoleni in other studies consulted in this project.
