Surname Mazzara
Origin and meaning
E. De Felice notes that this surname is of Sicilian origin and derives from the place name Mazara del Vallo, in the province of Trapani.
E. Rossoni agrees on that etymology and specifies that the surname is proper to western Sicily. He adds that the variants Mazzarese —very rare— and Mazzaresi —almost unique— come from the same area and could derive either from the place name Mazara del Vallo or from its demonym.
💡 The surname Mazzara also appears as variant of the surname Mazzo in other studies consulted in this project.
