Surname Marcucci
Origin and meaning
The sources consulted attribute the surname Marcucci to derivations of the Latin name Marcus. E. Rossoni documents the medieval use of this name in a Pisan text of 1293 and notes that traces of its transformation into a surname are recorded at Follonica, in the area of Grosseto, around 1500. Rossoni further observes that the surname is present throughout the central strip of Italy and in the Salento area — the southernmost part of the Apulia region, in southern Italy.
F. De Laurentiis proposes an alternative derivation from the surname Marchi, without offering further development of this hypothesis. It is also recorded that the surname derives from the first name Marco.
💡 The surname Marcucci also appears as altered form of the surname Marchi; also variant of the surname Marco in other studies consulted in this project.
