Surname Maiolo
Origin and meaning
E. Rossoni notes that this surname is of Calabrian origin, with a particular hold in the Catanzaro area. He adds that the variant Majolo, very rare, shows one area between the Padua and Vicenza areas —possibly of a secondary character— and another in Naples, and that both forms could derive from the names of localities.
F. De Laurentiis, by contrast, considers it proper to the Marche, and links it to the place name Maiolo, a locality in the province of Pesaro-Urbino.
💡 The surname Maiolo also appears as variant of the surname Maiolino in other studies consulted in this project.
