Surname Luppino
Origin and meaning
V. Blunda proposes a Sicilian dialect etymology: the surname would derive from the word luppìnu, which designates the lupin, an edible seed grown on dry land and eaten in brine as a popular snack at fairs and markets. On this reading, the surname would have arisen as a nickname applied to the grower or the itinerant seller of lupins.
F. De Laurentiis, by contrast, links it simply to a derivation related to the wolf, without developing the proposal.
