E. Rossoni notes that this is a surname of very scarce presence, with no clearly identifiable area of provenance, although he hypothesizes a possible origin in the Bari area, in the region of Puglia. He links it to the Latin nomen Licinius.

A. Bongioanni agrees on the Latin origin, but relates it to a given name of a Roman family, possibly derived from a plant called licinia. There is a saint of this name celebrated on 13 February. Bongioanni further adds a hypothesis about the surname Lasinio, documented in the Treviso area: it could be an ennobled form of Asín, which would designate the native of Vito d'Asio, a locality of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, from which the Friulian surnames Asíno and Bellasíno would also derive.
