Surname Fantinati

Origin and meaning

E. Rossoni considers that Fantinati is a patronymic form peculiar to Romagna, constructed with the suffix -ati on the given name Fantin or Fantino; it indicates, therefore, families descended from someone named Fantin. Rossoni places this surname in the area comprising the provinces of Bologna, Ferrara and Rovigo.

F. De Laurentiis proposes, on the other hand, a different etymology: he considers Fantinati as a derivative of Venetan origin of the surname Fanti, without reference to the given name Fantin as a starting point.

💡 The surname Fantinati also appears as variant of the surname Fantin in other studies consulted in this project.
