The authors agree that this surname has its origin in families of Guelph faith belonging to the house of the Quinzani, who were expelled from Lucca at the beginning of the 14th century.

The families of Guelph faith were those which, in medieval Italy, supported the papacy in the great political conflict that divided the Italian cities between the 12th and 14th centuries. The episode that motivated this expulsion was related to a conspiracy against Castruccio Castracani of the Interminelli, who had seized the government of the city. Giovanni Villani records it in his Nuova Cronica: after the plot was discovered, Castruccio had several members of the house of the Quartigiani executed and expelled more than a hundred of them from Lucca and its district, on 12 June 1328. The exiles transmitted to their descendants the new surname, which reflects precisely that condition of being expelled.

E. Rossoni notes that Discacciati would be a primitive form of the surname Scacciati, and places its historical presence in the Como area —specifically in Rovellasca—, in the Varese area —in Saronno— and in the Milan area.
