Surname Colombari
Origin and meaning
E. Rossoni proposes that these surnames could derive, directly or through hypocoristic forms, from the activity of pigeon breeders, or from place names such as Colombare (Bergamo and Brescia areas), Casale Colombaro (Novara area) or Colombaro (Modena area). Colombari presents specific areas in the Milan area and in the Verona area, its most important presence being in Emilia-Romagna, especially in the Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna, Ferrara and Rimini areas. Colombarini is typical of the Bologna area.
F. De Laurentiis offers a more synthetic perspective and considers it an Emilian derivation of the surname Colombo.
💡 The surname Colombari also appears as variant of the surname Colombo in other studies consulted in this project.
