E. Rossoni considers that this surname is peculiar to Piceno and would derive from a collective form with the suffix -aglia that would refer to the Cini, although he does not rule out that it comes from a disappeared place name.

S. Galantini proposes a different base: the aphaeretic hypocoristic Cino, extracted from names ending in -cino such as Baroncino or Bencino, with a suffix of a pejorative or derogatory value. Galantini also notes the possibility that the surname derives from the Piedmontese locality Cinaglio, and adds a geographical fact of interest: in the Chieti area, between the localities of Paglieta and Torino di Sangro, there is a place called Cinaglia. According to this author, during the 18th century the surname appears spread predominantly in the Val Vibrata, in Colonnella and in Controguerra.
