Surname Cecchetti

Origin and meaning

The authors agree that Cecchetti derives from Cecco or Cicco, dialectal and aphaeretic forms of the medieval name Francesco. E. Rossoni documents the use of these forms from the 13th century, with the famous Sienese poet Cecco Angiolieri, and in a text of 1332, also noting that the transformation into a surname is attested in San Vito al Tagliamento in the 15th century.

F. De Laurentiis indicates that Cecchetti derives from Cecchi, a surname also linked to the same base. Rossoni specifies that Cecchetti is distributed mainly in the central strip of Italy, covering Tuscany, the Marche, Umbria and Lazio.
