Surname Boschiero
Origin and meaning
Derived from Bosco. According to V. Blunda it is a Sicilian surname of dialectal origin, linked to a trade of the forest. It derives from the dialectal word buschèri, meaning "woodcutter, forest ranger". The profession combined the task of felling trees for the supply of firewood and construction timber with the surveillance of the forest spaces, particularly important in the mountainous areas of the Sicilian interior such as the Nebrodi and the Madonie, where the woodland resources were the object of exploitation regulated by the feudal authorities.
