Origin and meaning

Derived from Bortoli. According to E. De Stefani, it is a surname that originated from the affectionate Friulian form Bortul, corresponding to the Italian Bartolo, an abbreviated form of the Latin Bartholomaeus, the name of the apostle Bartholomew. To Bortul was added a continuator of the Latin suffix -uceus, giving the form Bortoluzzi. Over time it became a surname.
