The authors agree that Bledig is a Slovene patronymic surname derived from the adjective bled ("pale"), originally applied to a person of very light complexion.

E. Rossoni describes it as very rare and specific to the San Leonardo area, in the Udine area. He derives it from a nickname related to the physical characteristics of the ancestor, linked to the Slovene term bled ("pale, wan"). Bledig would thus indicate "the son of the pale one".

B. Zuanella specifies that from the Slovene adjective bled ("pale") first arose, with the suffix -a, the surname Bleda, which originally was a nickname and designated a person of very light or pale complexion. Later, with the suffix -ič, the patronymic Bledič/Bledig was formed, which originally designated the "son of Bleda". He recalls that various Slovene surnames have as their base the name of a colour: from the adjective bel ("white") arose Belina, Beligoj and Belec; from the adjective črn ("black"), Cernoia, Cerno, Cernotta, Cernet, Cernetig and Cernigoj; and from the adjective rus ("reddish, blond"), the house names Rusaci, Ruscovi and Rusoni. In all these cases, the adjectives allude to the colour of the complexion or the hair.
