Surname Bertola
Origin and meaning
E. Rossoni notes that this surname derives, directly or through affectionate or augmentative modifications, from the medieval names Bartolus, Bertolus or Bortolus, reduced forms of Bartolomeo.
R. Brondolo, on the other hand, interprets it as a diminutive of Albertola, with the sense of "little Alberto". According to Brondolo, the surname is spread in Lombardy and Piedmont, and is rooted in the canton of Ticino (Switzerland) since 1547.
💡 The surname Bertola also appears as altered form of the surname Berti; also variant of the surname Berto in other studies consulted in this project.
