Surname Attaguile

Origin and meaning

The authors agree that Attaguile is a Sicilian surname whose origin could be traced to languages other than Latin.

E. Rossoni proposes two hypotheses: it could derive from the Greek name Attagilos, or come from a name of Arabic origin.

V. Blunda leans towards the Arabic origin and derives it from the etymon at tawīl, meaning "the long one, the tall one", a descriptive nickname applied to the ancestor for his height or corpulence.
