Surname Arioldi

Origin and meaning

The authors agree that the surname has its origin in a personal name of Germanic tradition.

E. Rossoni identifies it as an uncommon variant, present practically only in the Milan area. He recalls Arialdo da Carimate, a monk and soldier defender of religious integrity, born in Cuggiago around the year 1010 and later canonised.

It is considered, along a complementary line, to be an infrequent anthroponymic surname, derived from Hariowald ("commander of the army").

💡 The surname Arioldi also appears as variant of the surname Airaldi in other studies consulted in this project.
