Origin and meaning

The authors agree that the surname derives from forms related to the name Andrea.

E. Rossoni derives it from diminutive forms of the name Andrea. He documents it in the Teramo area from the 17th century.

S. Galantini suggests that it could be a corrupted form of the surname Andreacci, in turn altered or derived from the base surname Andrei. In this case it would have as its base the personal name Andrea, which continues —through Latin— the Greek name Andreas ("man"), widespread in the Roman Empire and later established in Italy in the Christian era and tradition, through the prestige of the apostle Andrew.

Galantini notes that the surname appears in the 19th century in Cologna. In the spelling Andreacci, on the other hand, it is documented in Teramo as early as the 17th century.
