Surname Accornero

Origin and meaning

According to E. De Felice, the surname Accornero is widespread in Piedmont, Liguria and part of Lombardy, and derives from the place name Accorneri (Superiore and Inferiore), in the province of Asti. It is therefore a surname of toponymic origin, identifying people coming from that place.

For his part, E. Rossoni proposes a different interpretation, considering it an altered form of the surname Cornero, to which an initial euphonic "Ac-" would have been added, that is, incorporated for phonetic reasons to ease pronunciation, without substantially modifying the original meaning.
